Almost exactly ten years ago, UniSA Vice Chancellor David Lloyd engaged an individual who harassed my partner and child in our home.
Immediately following this incident, my family identified the perpetrator from their social media profile as a senior UniSA manager who had targeted, harassed and bullied many colleagues including myself for many years. David Lloyd has previously detailed his close relationship with this individual who he first met prior to commencing employment at UniSA.
I commenced working at UniSA in May 2005. On 25 June 2007, I approached UniSA's HR team seeking support to manage health and personal issues arising from the breakdown of my long term relationship with the mother of my eldest child. Asking for help was the catalyst for an unsafe range of behaviours by colleagues which negatively impacted on my wellbeing - whilst some of these actions may simply be due to errors of judgement by colleagues, many actions - including those by the perpetrator of the harassment of my family in 2015 - were undertaken with the aim of causing as much harm and distress as possible and to prevent my return to work.
Before detailing this intentionally harmful behaviour that occurred over many years, I wish to clearly indicate that my purpose is doing so is aimed towards future attempts at running for the Senate or Legislative Council. If the soon to be formed Adelaide University repeats the damaging and audacious behaviour that UniSA's Human Resources unit repeatedly indulged in, then this may indicate the origins of such behaviours but my purpose is broader than that. For years our parliaments, have not resolved the issue of how we better support those trying to stop repeat acts of harm given the under resourced and impotent regulatory, law enforcement and health and safety bodies currently in place. We need to support witnesses and bystanders who wish to prevent ongoing harm and such individuals should no longer be ignored. Whilst the notion of using parliamentary privilege in a more timely manner to shine a light on such events may seem somewhat anarchic, is it not simply insane to continue on with the status quo? How many more Royal Commission findings do our parliaments continue to ignore? The repeated acts of neglect and intentional harm in child care, aged care, disability, education and health settings have cast dark shadows on our community and I wish to explore if my platform can create the change where we have simple and supported pathways for individuals to speak out to stop predatory and negligent conduct.
